The rumor was triggered by a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Animation Workers Ignited. They published a video saying“Cartoon Network is practically dead.”and that other animation studios face similar challenges due to massive redundancies after the COVID-19 pandemic. The video said that although animation managed to continue production during the pandemic, many projects were cancelled and many artists were fired.

Cartoon Network Reaction

After the rumor went viral, Cartoon Network issued an official communiqué to clarify the situation:

“Cartoon Network wishes to clarify that there is no truth in speculation that the network or studio is closing. With a number of recently announced projects, we remain committed to continuously investing in innovative content that will entertain and inspire our viewers around the world.”
